Sexually transmitted diseases have been on the rise for many years. This is contributed by the irresponsible sexual activity in our society today.Due to increased concern by part of the society an STD awareness month was created at the 2009 Congressional Resolution to help in raising awareness.
This month was meant to help in raising awareness and help in fighting them. We all remember April 1st for none of us want to be fooled but forget how this month is vital to us concerning our sexual behavior. The age group that has and is being treated for this STD mainly range from 15 to 24 years in both men and women.
They are treatable in some cases and are controllable in others only under early detection.Awareness creation is aimed at educating people on everything that pertains to them. I have explained specific aspects that relate to STD below.
What are the different types of STD?
They include: Gonorrhea, Syphilis, HIV/AIDS, Genital Herpes and Warts, Chlamydia, or trichomoniasis.
This is the most popular STD. This STI has no scientific know cure up to date. Some drugs also referred to as ARVs are what that are given to help control its spread and its effects on the body.
To prevent its spread a patient has to take the prescribed drugs, eat healthily and stay away from other infected persons sexually. It can be transmitted during sex, blood transfusion or from mother to child.
the only time a mother can transmit this virus to their little one is in cases where proper medical precautions not observed.A nursing HIV positive mother can only do so for the first six months exclusively.
Condoms, abstaining or proper blood screening before any transmission is among the many preventative measures.
Effects of Gonorrhea
This is the most common STD in the US currently. Most of the gonorrhea-causing bacterium can be treated but a specific strain is discovered to be resistant to medication. Gonorrhea is known to cause infertility in all genders if not treated early. Using a condom or a dental dam can help in preventing one from contracting the bacteria.
All About Syphilis
If syphilis is not treated it can cause so much harm in the body like brain damage that may cause madness. .It can be passed from one person to another through any form of sexual contact be it anal, oral or genital. There are so many STIs that can affect the human body, but the above are the most popular.
Examining the symptoms, testing and treatment of STD
Testing is easy and can be done in a laboratory by a certified health practitioner. Blood, urine or swab samples are drawn from the patient and tested. If results are positive the doctors will advice accordingly.
