A guide to Dealing with 4 Month Sleep Regression.
When a toddler who has been sleeping well suddenly changes the sleeping habits, it is usually referred to as sleep regression. The toddler starts waking up at night several times than he or she has been doing, or refuses to sleep entirely and take longer to fall asleep. The regression may occur at the age of 4 months, 9 months or even the age of 18 months. Let discuss some of the reasons why sleep regression occurs at 4 months, otherwise known as 4 month old sleep regression and ways of trying to alleviate the regression.
At the age of 4 to 6 months, the baby has started noticing the things around him or her. Toddlers at 4 to 6 months spends time playing with adults and noticing the surrounding, there, the napping schedule gets interrupted. The toddler sleeps late hours, since the sleeping schedule was interfered with.
To minimize the cases of experiencing the regressions, schedule the plays so that they do not interfere with the toddlers napping time. Evening bath and massage is also a great way of reducing the sleep regressing.
Change of feeding schedule can also lead to 4 month regression. The toddler might not sleep well if fed earlier than usual. Avoid frequent altering of the feeding timetable, but if the change is inevitable, the baby will adapt with time.
Change of diet can also cause the sleep regression. Remember that the baby is still a toddler, and not used to consuming several types of foods. Actually, most toddlers at age 4 to 6 months are on exclusive breastfeeding or formula milk. A 6 months old sleeping schedule will be interfered with when the formula or breast milk is changed. To avoid this problem, any change of diet can be done early morning so that the caregiver can have enough time during the day to monitor any subsequent changes to baby behavior.
Change of weather can also cause sleep regression especially to toddlers who are not used to travelling. They may completely refuse to nap during the day, and also not sleep well at night. Some even suffer from cold or flu which affects their sleeping ways. Avoid travelling with toddlers of this age, unless where need be. Keep the baby warm and carry with you the right clothing for the current weather.
Create a sleeping schedule to follow when the toddler is preparing to sleep. Start with an early meal, then a warm bath, followed by a time to read the baby a story before the toddler sleep.
Focus on the several ways of alleviating the 4 month sleep regression,, as well as what causes it. Remember that toddlers are different, and what works for one baby might not work on your baby too.
